Mary Joy Panaguiton

Mary Joy (21 years old)

I am Mary Joy Panaguiton from Igbical Hamtic, Antique. I am totally blind.  I was accepted in St. Joseph Orphanage in 9 years ago I studied in SPED Elementary school and graduated in 2006. I was enrolled in 1st Year High School in Antique National School (ANS). Now I am a 3rd Year High School transferred to St. Anthony’s College a diocesan school in St. Anthony’s College (SAC). Next year I hope to graduate and if Fr. Jose Bantolo will still be able to accept us in college I will be very happy. Emie entered the orphanage the same year 2001 and is also now a scholar of Fr. Bantolo in SAC. She wants to study computer programming after graduating in High School.

Because I am in Orphanage I have received so many blessings. First of all we are taught to do the best we can but not to be so ambitious as to desire so much for wealth and power. We are taught that what matters in our life is to love and serve God and not to desire for riches as our primary goal. We give time for prayer and we are happy even if we are not at the top of our class.

However it is our joy that Emie was a champion in Braille reading and writing & I got 2nd place during our national summer camp for the blind in 2004. I was also delegate for Antique in leadership training in Manila last 2006. I got Champion in Komposo Category entitled Istorya kang Kabuhi during the 5th OKM Music Awards. A contest in composing a ballad and singing it.

What we desire is to be one day self-reliant.
